Fair Trade Certified™ Green Mountain Coffee® [a review]

After living in Portland for a number of years you can guarantee one thing… I love coffee!  I love the smell, the flavor, the social aspect of it.  Coffee holds a serious place in my heart.

This is why when BzzAgent contacted me to review Fair Trade Certified Green Mountain Coffee® K-Cup® packs, I jumped at the opportunity.

To be honest, I was not completely familiar with the Fair Trade Certified marking and what that meant for the coffee… I learned a lot through this experience!

Basically, Fair Trade certification gives farmers a fair price for their beans with a guaranteed minimum, which means they can invest in their crops, their communities, and their future. Fair Trade also lets Green Mountain Coffee® and farmers work closely together to bring the best tasting coffee to market.

For example, in 2012, coffee farmers earned more than $31.8 million in Fair Trade premiums to invest in their communities and improve the quality of their harvests. This is an 88% increase over 2011 premiums earned. (via

After learning about this, it made me definitely want to be more careful about purchasing my coffee through a Fair Trade Certified company!

Also (randomly) Kelly Clarkson teamed up with Green Mountain Coffee to learn more about Fair Trade Certified coffee and what that means.  I watched this video on and I am sharing it because I personally thought it was super interesting.

Now, after all this I know you’re wondering how the coffee actually tasted, right?

Well, to be honest, I am not picky when it comes to coffee—I just love it all…but I did really like the Green Mountain Coffee Three Continent Blend that I was sent.  The Three Continent Blend combines the flavors and aromas of South America, Africa, and Asia into one harmonious Extra Bold Blend.  It was strong—and I appreciate that. :)

Now, if you’re interested in trying this yourself, feel free to visit and use the following coupon codes to save $2 on a 24-count of K-Cup® packs.  FTBZZ-FQ9K2SW, FTBZZ-FQ9L41L, FTBZZ-FQB0VBV, FTBZZ-FQB3YP0, FTBZZ-FQBBLFK  (While supplies last.)

What’s your favorite brand of coffee?

We buy our beans through a local roaster—but after this experience I am curious to find out where they get them…if they are Fair Trade Certified!
