I know I have not updated this little space in awhile—life has been chaotic and filled with lots of highs and lows…But I’m back today to document a big milestone…
My baby boy is ONE MONTH OLD today!!
I can hardly believe it, and I can cry thinking about how big he’s getting already! The first month has flown by, I am a mess. :) So without further adieu, here’s an update on our little guy…
He was 21 inches long when he was born, (97th percentile) and I definitely feel like he has grown since then. Our little guy is long and skinny like his dad, and now that he’s starting to stretch out more and not scrunch up, he seems a lot bigger! We will know how much he has actually grown at his 2 month appointment.
When JJ was born he weighed 8 lbs. 2 oz. (75th percentile) and at his 2 week appointment he grew to 8 lbs. 10 oz. (51st percentile) He has for sure gained some weight since then too—he is filling out nicely and loves to eat.
His health is great! No serious issues (PTL!!). The only concerns he faces are his hiccups, he gets them at least 2-3 times a day. This is funny because he got them a lot when I was pregnant too. They are definitely annoying and he is not a fan… but there’s not much we can do about that. :) The only other issue are his chapped lips. I’m told this is from eating, and eventually they will peel off and he will get used to it, but I just feel so bad for him!
Sleeping… he lovessss to sleep! Eating, typical baby there I guess. :)
Bath time—Not a fan! Hiccups, [hotoshoots… we have tried a couple times and he is just not into them, and being fussed with while he is sleeping. This boy (like his dad) values his sleep big time!
He is still mostly in newborn clothes, but fits into a few 0-3 month things.
He is breastfeeding like a champ. I am thrilled that we are able to do this successfully because I know it’s not always easy for people. He eats every 2-3 hours during the day and has been waking up every 4ish hours at night.
Like I said, we are seriously lucky with this guy. He (*knock on wood*) sleeps so well. He is waking every 4ish hours at night to eat, but he usually goes right back to sleep afterwards. He is sleeping in a Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, and we have not had too many issues overall.
Our Favorite Things:
These are a few things this past month that we have loved/have been really helpful:
Rock ‘n Play Sleeper (see above)
Puj Tub—This has been pretty helpful for me specifically because I wasn’t able to lean over the bathtub to give JJ baths in the other little contraption we have. This little tub fits right in the sink.
Baby Starters Blankets—We have 2 different blankets of this brand and they are the perfect size for the car seat, and to carry around. We have a couple big handmade blankets that we love at home, but these are great for travel.
Ingenuity ConvertMe Swing-2-Seat—This was a hand-me-down that we love! It’s perfect to set JJ down in while we are doing things around the house.
-His umbilical cord stump fell off when he was 3 weeks old—which I think is a long time?! A lot of other babies that I know had theirs fall off within 7-10 days.
-Had a newborn photoshoot done just after 3 weeks old… my cousin and Jessie decided we could try and do it but JJ hated it! Granted he was in the car the entire day before and was in a fussy mood. (See a few below!)
-He celebrated his first Christmas and New Year’s.
-He met a lot of extended family from my side on Christmas Eve, and then we spent some time down South where he got to meet Zack’s side of the family too! He is one very loved boy.
-He smiles a lot—he is probably just passing gas, but I like to think he does it on purpose. :)
-His hair is brown but is starting to look a bit reddish—and there is a lot of it! His hair is usually the first thing people comment on when they meet him. He also still has his dark blue eyes. I’m hoping they stay blue!
We are so in love with this little guy… we are blessed to be his parents.
